March is officially National Craft Month—a time to celebrate creativity, hands-on hobbies and the joy of making something with love and intention. And while the month may have passed, we think creativity deserves to be celebrated all year long. At Capri Communities, creative senior living in Wisconsin means embracing these moments every day—not just in March. So, we’re taking a moment in April to reflect on some of the incredible handmade moments that happened across our communities last month. Besides, there’s no expiration date on celebrating creativity!
Crafting is more than just a pastime—it’s a powerful way to express yourself, build community and find joy in the everyday. Whether it’s quilting, crocheting, woodworking, painting or any number of hands-on hobbies, each craft holds a story, a skill and a sense of purpose. At Capri, we believe in nurturing those passions and giving our residents the tools and encouragement they need to keep doing what they love. That’s part of what makes creative senior living in Wisconsin so meaningful within our communities.
You’ll find that passion woven into daily life across all our communities. Take Grace Commons in Menomonee Falls, for example, where residents from Blu Grotto, their Memory Care neighborhood, spent March immersed in creativity—painting, sketching, and preparing pieces for a vibrant Art Show. The event itself was held in early April, giving residents the perfect opportunity to celebrate their hard work and showcase their artwork with pride. The creativity was flowing, and the sense of accomplishment in each brushstroke was unmistakable.

Over in Mequon at Teal Shores, residents enjoyed a live painting demonstration from their talented Lifestyle Enrichment Coordinator—this time bringing Van Gogh’s iconic Starry Night to life. Residents relaxed, learned new techniques and shared stories as the famous swirls and stars took shape.

One of the most inspiring examples of resident-led creativity is at Wilson Commons on the south side of Milwaukee. The Fiber Arts Club, run entirely by residents, has remained a beloved staple in the community for years. In fact, the club was even featured by TMJ4 News back in 2022 for their incredible efforts crocheting over 700 hats and other cozy items for people battling cancer. That spirit of giving through craft is alive and well today, as the club continues to meet regularly, sharing skills and supporting causes close to their hearts. Watch the story here. It’s a beautiful reflection of the depth and purpose behind creative senior living in Wisconsin.

Resident-led activities like these are at the heart of our Enjoy Life philosophy. While our Lifestyle Enrichment teams help guide and coordinate events, we actively encourage residents to take the lead—especially when it comes to hobbies and creative passions. When a resident has a craft or skill they love, we do our best to support them in starting a group or club, bringing together others who share that interest. From helping secure supplies to promoting the activity and reserving space, our teams are here to help residents bring their ideas to life. It’s all part of fostering a vibrant culture of creative senior living in Wisconsin.
And if you love all things handmade, you won’t want to miss the craft fairs hosted at several of our communities throughout the year. These events are a great way to connect with local artisans, discover one-of-a-kind treasures and support the creative community. Coming up soon: Hyland Campus in Sun Prairie is hosting its annual Craft Fair on Friday, April 26. Mark your calendar! The fair will feature local artisans, hand-crafted gifts, home décor, jewelry, soaps and more. Admission is free and all are welcome—so bring a friend and enjoy a day full of creativity.
Craft Month may be over, but the inspiration it brings is ongoing. Whether you’re trying out a new hobby, dusting off an old favorite or simply appreciating the talents of those around you, we hope you’ll take a moment this April to honor the joy of creativity—and maybe even get a little crafty yourself. Here’s to the makers, the doers, and the creators in every corner of our communities. Happy (belated) Craft Month—and happy crafting all year long!
