Capri Communities Celebrate Active Aging Week
Active Aging Week was initiated in 2003 by the International Council on Active Aging®. This week-long campaign, taking place October 1-7, 2019, sets to challenge existing stigmas of aging. According to the Active Aging Week Website, "The objective of the annual health-promotion event is to give as many older adults as possible the means to experience wellness activities and exercise in a safe, supportive environment. It also promotes the benefits of healthier, more active lifestyles across the life span."
This year's theme for Active Aging Week is Redefining Active because being active can mean so many things! It's about a broader engagement: being socially active with friends, maintaining a religious or spiritual life, learning and trying new things, and leading a healthy lifestyle with good nutrition, exercise, mindfulness, and forms of stress-management.
Capri Communities will celebrate Active Aging Week by incorporating special programs into our calendars throughout all of October. Our Lifestyle Enrichment team is tasked with creating great programs that tie in with each GROW program component: social, emotional, vocational, physical, spiritual, and intellectual.
"Residents will receive a passport and will get a stamp each time they try something new," said Meghan Davis, Director of Lifestyle Enrichment at Capri Communities. "It's a fun way to celebrate Active Aging Week and a way to get all of our residents involved."
