Three Oaks Circle is the fulfillment of the dreams of the Indian Council of the Elderly, the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi and the School Sisters of St. Francis to provide affordable, independent housing for seniors who wish to reside on the southwest side of Milwaukee. Sponsorship of this Independent Living community has been carried on to this day by the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi and the School Sisters of St. Francis.

The mission of this collaborative development has been to foster quality of life and independent living for older adults by providing appropriate, low income housing in Milwaukee and by facilitating access to services senior require. Three Oaks Circle has become a warm and comfortable home for many residents who enjoy the many amenities of the community and proximity to the neighborhoods they know and love. The community encourages an active, independent lifestyle balanced with comfort and security for seniors looking for subsidized, low-income apartments in Milwaukee. Three Oaks Circle builds and maintains relationships with senior resource organizations which offer residents many opportunities to learn about the services available for them.

Residents of Three Oaks Circle must be at least 62 years of age and are required to meet certain income restrictions as required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Qualifying residents will only be required to pay 30% of their gross adjusted income as their monthly rental charge.

Michele Chrisman

Resident CoordinatorEmail: mchrisman@capricommunities.comMichele has been the Resident Coordinator at Three Oaks Circle since 2012. She works hard on the community's monthly activity calendar and helps facilitate resident activities. "The staff and residents work so well together," said Michele. "It's hard to call it work!"
Every GROW program theme gets better and better for Michele. She loves sharing GROW themes with residents as it helps them to learn new things and even share experiences from their past. Michele tries to make sure there's something different each month to cater to everyone's diverse likes. Cards, games, painting, and gathering together over meals are some of the residents' favorite activities.
"Residents care for each other so well in this community that there are new stories every day of concern, help, and love for each other."
Mona Schmalz

Mona Schmalz

Community Manager, Safety & Employee Committee RepresentativeEmail: rschmalz@capricommunities.comMona puts her lifetime of apartment community experience to great use for the independent senior residents of Hedwig House and Three Oaks Circle! As the Community Manager of both communities, Mona does everything she can to make each resident feel special. Mona considers herself part of the Hedwig House and Three Oaks Circle family and does her best to utilize local resources to bring information about services available to the residents.
Although both communities are located near many shops, medical offices and churches, Mona tries to bring resources inside the community including Green Market Vouchers, Food for the Hungry and its bread drop-off, the Stock Box program and visits from the Milwaukee Department on Aging once each month. "I want residents to know what resources are available and how to access them. These important services often make their lives better and help them remain independent," Mona explained.
Mona has been working with seniors much of her life. She is a Member at Large for the Southwest Interfaith where she enjoys volunteering during fundraising events and helping to carry out their mission. She is also a secretary for St. Clare Management Board which provides low-income housing for people with disabilities. Mona also works part time for an auctioneer and volunteers at the Sunset Playhouse. She was even the Cub Scout Master for Pack 400 Cub Scout Troup!
Mona often receives visits from the adorable pets that have come to live with their resident companions. Once a Humane Society employee and volunteer, Mona believes that pets contribute to the well-being of the spirit and enjoys the added liveliness.
"Our community is full of heart and soul!"
