Mary Creates Loving Environment at Landmark of West Allis

Manager Mary Morris shares her positive and loving spirit with everyone she meets, especially the residents who have made The Landmark their home.

Mary grew up in Milwaukee and was very involved in her parochial school choir and sports teams. She learned to sew and bake from her mom. As a young adult she earned a degree in Education which prepared her for planning the many interesting activities she coordinates for residents. She has 20 years of experience working with seniors in retirement community settings, including service as administrator and marketing director. Her wealth of knowledge, experience and spirituality make Mary precious for carrying out the mission of Capri Senior Communities.

Mary’s approach to interacting with seniors is to treat them with gentleness, kindness and understanding, which is in keeping with the Capri Senior Communities guiding values—“maintaining a relationship of trust and caring with our residents”. After many years of working with seniors, Mary realizes each individual has different needs that must be addressed in special ways. “Everyone needs to be treated with love and respect,” she says. “I want our residents to be comfortable coming to our office any time, whether they need a phone number, some stamps or just a listening ear and hug when they are feeling down,” she explains.

Most Landmark residents are active and love to socialize---more than 50% perform volunteer work in the Milwaukee area and just as many are involved in the extensive Landmark activities program run by Mary and her assistant Beverly. Programming includes weekly grocery shopping trips, monthly Mystery Lunch trips, bingo, card clubs and pot luck meals. Mary is also an active participant in the West Allis Community, volunteering for the West Allis Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown West Allis Business Improvement District, the West Allis Christmas Parade and the West Allis Senior Prom. Mary’s kindness is a gift to hundreds throughout the West Allis area.
