Mona Schmalz, Hedwig House Manager

Mona enjoys her job of managing the Hedwig House Capri Senior Community on Milwaukee’s East Side. She puts her lifetime of apartment community experience to great use for the independent senior residents of the lovely Hedwig House.

“My wonderful relationships at Hedwig House come from listening and responding to the needs of residents in a way that comes from the heart,” Mona explains. “I often understand what they need by looking into their eyes,” she says.

Mona lives out the Capri Senior Communities mission of nurturing the spirit of well being with residents and staff.

The staff members that aid Mona in supporting the independent lifestyles of residents at Hedwig House include a part time social worker, to connect residents with community resources, and a maintenance repair person, to keep apartments and common areas in top working order. The common areas are often used for bingo and exercise.

One of the perks of Mona’s job is that she often receives visits from the adorable pets that have come to live with their resident companions at Hedwig House. Once a Humane Society employee and volunteer, Mona believes that pets contribute to the well being of the spirit and enjoys the added liveliness herself. “Our community is full of heart and soul!” says Mona.
